William H. Poole, civil war veteran who first came to Lakeview 25 years ago, died at the home of his son, A.G. Poole, on the Frank Wilson ranch north of Lakeview last Sunday.

William Hargus Poole was born in Waplo(sic) county, Iowa, May 4, 1845; at the time of his death was aged 79. When a young man and while living in Nebraska the Civil war broke out and he answeredthe cal(sic) of President Lincoln and volunteered with company A of the first Nebraska and served three years in the army until the war came to a close.

He came west when the O.W.R. & N. Railway extended its line from Salt Lake City to Portland and engaged in contracting work. He came to Lake county and resided here until his death.

He leaves to survive him three sons, Otis, of Yellowstone Park, Charley and A.G. Poole, both of Lakeview and onegrandchild, Gene V. Poole, also of Lakeview.

Funeral services took place from the M.E. church last Tuesday afternoon and he was laid to rest in the IOOF cemetery. Rev. Geo. A. Wilber of the local Presbyterian church officiated.

Here is his picture, as it was included.  He looks like his bro. Napoleon B. Poole and also, with that high forehead and deep set eyes, like his sister Mary Ann Poole Hale.

A son of William Thomas Poole and Delila(h) Brown of Kentucky.
Married on 26 Jan 1859, Cass Co., Nebraska, to Saraphine Cardwell. Children: William Bosier, James Washington, Julius Lincoln, Albert Joshua, John "Wood" Woodrum, Desdamonia Poole Scott, Andrew Thomas "Andy", Vernon Napoleon, and Umatilla "Uma" Poole Bonebrake. Arrived in Oregon about Dec 1859. Settled in Douglas Co. in 1860.
